Description:
|
In the old Latin country tradition, the owners named this special property Quinta Tinajero. This is a
piece of furniture which was commonly found in the kitchens of 18thcentury Spanish colonial homes. Its
function was to filter water collected from rivers, ponds, and wells that was poured into a container
carved out of a soft porous volcanic stone. This stone was placed inside the upper level of a wooden
cabinet, using the lower level to house a tinaja, or fired clay pot, that would collect and cool the filtered
water dripping down from the stone filter above. It is most likely, this functional design came from the
spanish province of Murica in southeastern Spain, where the climate was similar to the new world areas
occupied by the Spanish conquistadores. The owners are leaving their cabinet, which sits on the front
patio/portan area with the volcanic stone and tinaja inside for the new owners.
